Bohemia Redux is a nonprofit dedicated to creating artists’ live/work spaces and venues in the city of San Francisco. Our goal is to restore the once-huge creative community that has been displaced, and to demonstrate the value of working and emerging artists in our cities.
Thousands of academic studies have shown the value of art to a society, but none have addressed the value of artists to the social fabric. One easily demonstrable fact supports the value of artists in cities. In every formerly affordable neighborhood where the arts flourished, the demand for housing is fiercely competitive: Think North Beach, the Haight, South of Market, and the Mission. People are drawn to places where artistic creativity blossoms. Our goal is to give every neighborhood the vital and stimulating power of art in the making.
